The Roches Field: a natural curiosity to discover in the heart of the Vosges

Le champ de Roches
Located on the heights of the village of Barbey-Seroux in the Vosges, the Champ de Roches is a remarkable natural site that attracts many visitors every year.
This unusual site, made up of hundreds of granite stones and surrounded by fir trees, stretches nearly 400 meters long and 40 meters wide.
It intrigues as much as it fascinates with its long, perfectly aligned flow of rocks.
Don't miss this captivating spectacle in the heart of the Vosges!

The Champ de Roches, a scientific enigma

The formation of the Champ de Roches remains an enigma for scientists, giving rise to numerous local legends about the intervention of giants or the Evil One.
Nevertheless, it could be an exceptional geological phenomenon that occurred at the end of the last ice age.
Successive freezing and thawing are said to have fragmented the granite massif and caused the stones to gradually slide toward the valley.
The result remains impressive! A layer of rocks piled 7 to 8 meters deep, frozen in time.

A walk accessible to the whole family

Easily accessible from the main road, the Champ de Roches hiking trail allows you to tour the site with a walk of approximately 2.5 kilometers.
Park at the Grande Roche parking lot, then take the marked trail that winds through the forest.
You can follow the explanatory signs along the way to understand the history of the site and its formation.
As for children, they will be delighted to climb this river of rocks.
Practical tip: the site is accessible year-round, but it is best to wear walking shoes, especially during wet weather.
