Walking in the Vosges in winter

The Vosges Mountains are full of magnificent landscapes in winter. From frozen lakes to snow-covered pine forests, the atmosphere is magical.

Many trails are accessible less than 1 hour from our hotel to admire the beauty of nature.

Just 2 hours by TGV from Paris, the Vosges Mountains have 14 peaks, 26 ski resorts and 20,000 km of hiking trails.

Whether you are with family, friends or as a couple, discover the must-see walks to do in winter in the Vosges.

Explore the most beautiful winter hikes in the Vosges

The summit of Hohneck

A true paradise for hikers, the highest peak in the Vosges peaks at 1,363 meters above sea level and promises you a breathtaking 360° view.

You can admire the Alsace plain, the Black Forest and even the Alps if the weather permits.

Park at the foot of the Hohneck near the inn to start your climb (about 1 km) to the summit.

The Tendon waterfalls

Between Gerardmer and Épinal, these two waterfalls are the best known in the region. They form an 8 km loop accessible to the whole family with little difference in altitude.

The Grande cascade de Tendon and its little sister offer a sumptuous spectacle in winter. You will even find a car park a few dozen meters from the site.

The Tour de Mérelle in Gérardmer

Built by the scouts of France, this Tower offers an exceptional panorama of Lake Gérardmer and the ridges.

Allow 2 hours 30 minutes of hiking if you leave from the south of Lake Gérardmer. Once you arrive, take the very narrow spiral staircase and climb the 85 steps that will take you to the top of the Tower.

A large car park is also accessible 100 m away. Also, make sure you wear good shoes, as the ground can be slippery.

Try unusual walks

Snowshoeing in Ventron

Why not enjoy a snowshoe walk in the Vosges? The starting point is at the car park of the Ermitage Frère Joseph downhill ski area.

Then take the 4 km marked route for an excursion into the forest. The duration of the route can vary depending on the quality and quantity of snow.

Dog sledding in Schnepfenried

Here is an activity that is sure to please the whole family. Climb aboard one of the sleds with the musher and his dogs for a 1 to 2.5 hour ride.

The walk is magical in the middle of nature with many viewpoints.

It is advisable to book several weeks in advance.

The Reindeer Farm in Stosswihr

A little air of Lapland blows over the Vosges. In the heart of the Tannet massif, 30 to 40 Reindeer roam freely at an altitude of 1096 meters.

With family or friends, you can take an educational trail of 800 m in the forest and even participate in feeding the animals with lichen.

At the end of the path, do not miss the house of Santa Claus who has gone to Lapland to prepare his distribution of gifts.

Your 4-star hotel in the Vosges

Back at the Hôtel & Spa Le Chapitre in Remiremont, head to your warm room with a walk-in shower or bathtub.

Each room is equipped with bedding with enhanced comfort thanks to a mattress topper and 4 pillows.
